DJ Darryl Strickland promises a mix of various styles of dance music-trance, nrg, progressive, house-in his liner notes for this disc, and I must admit, he delivers. The only problem here is track 1, "Proud" by Diva Deluxe. If by Diva Deluxe they mean Heather Small of M People, then my guess is this is a low quality bootleg mix of her song and vocals, slightly remixed, with absolutely no dynamic range in the mix. It's a really bad idea to start off a dance mix CD with a record that is muffled and has no clear highs or lows. But don't let that discourage you. You can easily see the difference when track 2, the trance Operatica track, comes in with much stronger beat, clear tones, and nice highs. The cover of "Imagine" is actually a nicer mix then the ones that were released on the Sir Ivan CD single. And from there things just get hotter. The only other low point for me is the tribal instrumental Drum Fever. I don't enjoy songs like this when I'm not in a club (and not even much when I am in a club). Other than that, all I can say is, Darryl Strickland picks a more solid set of tunes than most of the big DJs who do these compilations, and I only wish he would do more of them.
